TEHRAN (IQNA) – Twenty Moukebs set up by representatives of 8 countries served the Arbaeen pilgrims this year.

The Astans (custodianships) of the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) said in a statement that they were from Pakistan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait, Sweden, India, and Britain.

Moukebs are resting places with special facilities and services for pilgrims set up on roads leading to Karbala during the pilgrimage.

The statement added that Iraqis themselves set up some 10,000 Moukebs in the Arbaeen season this year.

It also noted that religious figures scholars from other faiths, including Christianity, were also present in the Arbaeen rituals in Karbala.

Arbaeen comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

This year, Iraq’s government said it would allow each country to send at most 1,500 pilgrims to the Arab country to take part in the Arbaeen processions.
